How to Grow your Social Media Engagement
Nowadays, everybody uses all platforms of social media so most likely your business does as well! However, how you use it to help reach your business goals is another question. Social media engagement measures how engaged your audience is with your content on the different platforms and it includes the following:
· Likes, comments and saves on your posts
· Number of followers
· Shares and re-tweets
· Mentions, replies and DMs
But why are they so important? Because – as with most things in life – quality is more important than quantity. It’s not enough to simply have thousands of followers if they don’t like your brand and content. The key is to have conversation and through that, offer unique value to your audience.
When it comes to social media engagement, I like going with the three W method for starters. In order to increase your social media engagement, you need to know who your audience is, why do you need engagement and what your message should be. Let’s see what I mean by that!
Who is your audience?
You can’t have meaningful conversation without knowing who you are talking to. It’s important to figure out why your followers are actually following you, what they want to know about you and learn from you. This way you can really provide them with valuable content.
Why do you need engagement?
The next step is to identify your social media goals as your engagement strategy will vary greatly depending on the answer. You might be a food blogger who would like to share recipes and sell e-books, or an entrepreneur selling handmade jewelry. Both requires different approaches, so you have to define that well!
What should your message be?
After the first two questions, it will be a lot easier to figure out what type of content is the most suitable for your followers and audience. Keep in mind to always start conversations instead of simply sharing information!
Lastly, let’s see what kind of tips and practices you can use for social media engagement!
Stay active and post 1-3 times daily on your social media. This way you can stay on top of your followers’ feed and boost reactions on your content.
Always try to stay proactive instead of simply reacting. Your proactivity will boost your audience’s activity as well.
Try to be more personal, sharing some parts of your private life as well. Knowing you as a person, not just as a business will make you more loveable.
Respond as soon as you can to all comments, tags and DMs. This way you can show your engagement toward your followers.
Know the algorithms of the platforms in order to achieve success. As all platforms work differently, you should always keep up with the changes and strategies of the different channels.
Practices to increase followers’ activity:
· Contests and giveaways
· Polls
· Asking meaningful questions and listening
· Partnerships with other brands related to your business
And last but not least always measure the impact to learn from your audience’s reactions! For that, you can find many apps and sites to help you get started.
